Yea that's not too far from where I'm at. Over in Temple Terrace area. I want to get further out that way. A lil more country, lil more land etc. Yea 35K a yr is rough. Hopefully I'll be able to find something. Even if it ends up being OTR. Do you decide when you go home etc? And if so how often do you and for how long?

I'm an O/O. If you could not go home or do what you want then you are nothing but a company driver. Its my fuel,.. I have dead headed from NJ to Fla because I got my panties in a twist and decided to go home. I left Ga on the 18th and came home. I have a load set up for the 4th that will get me out of Fla. I wont see Fla again until April/May.

As for how often,.. well not much lately. I have been on a mission to get seriously liquid in the bank. So I have been staying out for an extended period,. my choice.

Normally,.. I go out 3 - 5 weeks. Come home 7 - 14 days. Yes I'm away from home for more than I like,.. but I am also home for longer periods and get to enjoy better quality time with the amount of time I have at home. What I do is set a goal of money I want to have in the bank. When I reach that goal I head home and enjoy myself.

Not an ideal way to live,.. but it works for me.

Maybe up north and near large cities. A friend of my wife, her husband drives for Sysco in Orlando,.. he struggles to clear $40k. They do ok because she also makes $40k. So their combined income affords them a decent lifestyle here in Fl.

But $40k as a single guy,.. well thats not exactly a lot of money to go start a family with.

In terms of salaries,.. Fla is a bit behind the rest of the country. Its a right to work state. You can be terminated at any time for any reason with out any consequences to the employer. You have no legal ground unless you can prove something like sexual or racial harassment.

That's awesome. I know what u mean. I just heard from Lease purchase people complaining about putting in for home time. That confused me cause just like u said its ur fuel etc. So I just wanted to see if that was just certain companies or what. Prob just a lease purchase thing. But I cn def see being home for that long. Cause we all kno when ur just hm on the weekend it's never enough. Most of the time is spent running around getting things done for when u leave again. Thanks for all the info and giving me some insight. I'm in the dark about most of this O/O stuff.

Please note that Hurst is the exception, not the rule and definitely not average. Man works real hard and has had his butt kicked to put it mildly. And has risen again and again, not many people I know could survive his path. His advice is straight forward and sober. Your results may differ.

What does he do at Sysco because I worked at the Sysco in Orlando for 2+ years and my first year was $68k 2nd year was $73k and when I left half way through my 3rd year I was on pace for $96k. I don't even think you could make less than $60k even if your were the laziest guy on earth. Minimum route pay for a week is still $1100 per week for a new guy and then after a year of raises I avg $1400-$1600 a week. If he missed time off due to a injury then that's something different.
