Which would you reccomend I start out with & why? Does either get more miles than the other? Longer wait times? Etc curious to know.

I started out with Dry Vans and it was probably for the better. Less Lumpers, more store/small warehouse deliveries that unload and load typically faster then frozen warehouses. Also a huge percentage of reefer loads are heavy so you're gonna constantly be scaling out and waiting in the dreadful trailer wash lines if it implies. I liked running reefer for the sake of getting loads from Clearwater FL to Northern Cali. Dry van was less stressful.. Less 2am deliveries... And lots of tight places to perfect your backing. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck

I sat at the Sikeston MO uniliver plant for 16 hours waiting to get loaded when I was over at Pullen Bros. Never had a issue like that pulling Dry Van.

For me, I have found dry van to be an overall better experience.

A reefer is another engine to worry about breaking down and so many more hassles, as others have said.

The trailer washout deal is a real pain. You most likely won't get paid to go do it and you may have to go out of your way to get it done. Those places aren't exactly everywhere.

Reefer trailer is about 2000 pounds heavier, than a dry van.
Buying your own reefer trailer, opens up more types of freight.
As a company driver, stay far away from reefer work, same pay as dry van, except lots of waiting, and no drop and hooks.

Down that way seems to be a good place to run tankers out of. I don't really recommend either dry van or reefer.
