I'm a new driver - just less than three months - and love my job. Just ran into a problem of sorts and wanted to ask for opinions.

My company truck has a bad fifth wheel. It has dropped two trailers in the last two weeks, even after doing a good visual inspection and a tug test. I took it to the shop. They had it for three days and couldn't get to it. My boss told me to go get it and use it for the rest of the week, and we will drop it back off on Friday.

I don't feel good about this.

    Your thoughts?

Dont do it. If you drop a trailer on the road and it kills someone that is on you not the boss. They will say that you have a brain and shouldnt have driven it. You worked hard to get your cdl. You dont want to lose it because of some ####### in an office. Refuse. If he fires you then you will still be hireable. Just explain to them why you were fired.

You're joking, right? What if you lose the trailer out on the road? I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

If it has dropped two trailers, I wouldn't drive it till that 5th wheel is fixed. If your going down the road and that trailer comes off, your already in big trouble. If it comes off and someone dies as a result its neglegent homicide.

How does the trailer come off if the 5th wheel lock is engaged? I'm a newbie not driving yet just asking this for my own safety too.

I'd like to know how the trailers came loose if the 5th wheel was locked. If it locks then I don't see how it can come loose.

I'm with the other guys,do not drive that truck seems your boss is more concerned about money then your safety and others on the road.I would quit first.

I was not in the truck the first time. The time it came off for me, I was leaving the yard. I did a visual on it for my pre trip, and it was set well. I am not looking forward to this.

When my 5th wheel went bad, it wouldn't release my trailer.

I don't have enough experience to quit and go somewhere else. If I had a few years I would walk.
