How many loads are you getting

-15 air temp tonight, -25 to -35 wind chill.... and thats in the big city... balmy just balmy

 

Are you running an open deck?

 

Did 2 last week since I got stuck in Oklahoma but 3-4 is the norm when I'm trucking.

 

I've had exactly 0 open deck loads in the last three weeks. I guess I need to have a talk with my dispatcher.

 

I would not want to be up where you are right now. I've spent the night in Williston and the surrounding area a few times with -30 to -50 wind chills. Delivered a tarp load up there once,.. took me an hour to undo my rock hard bungee and in the end,.. I wadded up my tarp and put 2 straps over it because the wind was blowing too hard, it was too stiff to fold up and I was too cold to argue with it.

I would come out and beat the ice off a strap,.. yank and tug on it to break it loose. Then jump back up in the cab and hug the heat for 5 mins before I could tolerate coming back out to undo the next strap. Guys at the camp said for me to take my time,.. they were inside the shop hugging one of those kerosene jet heaters. Miserable day for me,.. I hated being that cold.

Yup always seems the coldest days are the ones with the most anoying hand work labor...

 

I pull a hopper bottom every so often.

I dispatch myself and only haul out of one shipper. If I get out far enough I get something to get me home. They shut down for the holidays and its a slow time of year for them. I just sit it out until there is something to do. Thats the beauty of direct freight.
