Lots of Cb shops out there, but I want a bit more than peak and tune. I'd be. Happy with 50 watts or so. Don't want a linear.that is a bit much. I'm just getting into the whole Cb thing now. Before, it was just a 1/2 mile down the road thing. Now I'm a bit more into it I guess.

I hear you on the. A good antenna setup will help ALOT! But and good peak and tune can too. Mine is a 6 watt carrier and swings 38 watts without the amp. But your CB is limited by your antenna setup
-
Just put on a Wilson 2k and 9 feet of mini 8. It is 1.23 on swr. But will get it lower. Working on it today at home
-
Not sure what it's called but his wife told me its exit 67 on i10 I believe by the big rig oasis in Arizona
-
is the guy in a school bus?
-
I don't think so. Never been out there yet. She said its across from the flying j by the oasis. He has 2 other shops one just opened in Missouri
-
The big rig resort radio shop. Off 67th and i10

Yup, a good antenna will do more for both your transmit AND receive than any tweaking most people can do inside a CB.
BTW, a six-watt carrier is drawing a lot of current through your finals....and "swinging to 38" is a more than 6:1 ratio. So all those phantom watts that you're seeing above about 9 or 10 watts are out-of-band, or at least out-of-channel. Since you have a dead carrier reading, you're doing AM, and you can't outrun physics. Having your "technician" scream or whistle into the mic and reading the peak on a wattmeter (doesn't matter what brand) is no way to set modulation. If your tech doesn't have a controlled tone oscillator for a modulation source into the mic jack (ideally two tones simultaneously, especially needed for SSB), then heaven only knows what frequencies all those "swing watts" are in the spectrum.
Sorry, it's just science.
73EZ Money, TheDude1969, rabbiporkchop and 1 other person Thank this. -
Power and low swr aint the end all be all..4 watts can get you skip and miles and miles down the road IF coax is good,IF conditions are good,IF connections are good(i dont mean just clean)and type of ant and vehicle its on and lastly how well its tuned...Same conditions have to be on the recieveing persons side to..You can have the best in the world gear but if they cant hear ya cause they have crap or poorly maintained stuff, then your 10,000 watts $100000 set up is junk..
If signal is all distorted cause of a poor techs work your 6 watts swinging 38 will be like yelling at yourself with your head in a bucket..10-4??handlebar, rabbiporkchop and darthanubis Thank this. -
Why not stop at Bob' CB shop, exit 70, I-80 in PA or do you never get down that way?
