And, could you touch on "caves in KC." Are those like the Salt Mines that were shown in the movie, Deep Impact?

Brief version: if you do your job right (i.e., no log violations, no preventable accidents, show up on time, et al) then you are guaranteed a $900 minimum for the week. Obviously you want more and most weeks one makes more, but if you get stuck with an 800 mile week, for example, they will make up the difference between your mileage pay and the minimum.

Oh, and no fair taking three days off in the same week, and you don't get it if you're on vacation.

It ain't perfect but it does put some pressure on the planners to keep you moving.

Kansas City sits on a vast network of limestone caverns that have a very low relative humidity and preternatural temperature stability, making them cheap ready made storage facilities. Dry van haulers who run the Midwest inevitably end up navigating the narrow access corridors hacked out of the living rock to deliver goods to The Caves.

Just curious, if you have a short miles week and they pay you the minimum $900, do they then deduct the difference from the next week's check? I know that Prime does that, therefore the "minimum pay" is just an illusion.

Nah. According to my insider sources there (NOT DRIVERS) they just do their best to keep drivers moving. Also Prime is a lease environment not company.

According to my friends they're not paying out as much as one would think since it turns out the drivers who do their jobs right are running more miles and the ones who don't do their jobs correctly tend to disqualify themselves anyway.

(My friends work in planning and payroll)

It isn't designed to be a guaranteed income so much as to help out when freight is slow. I for one would not be satisfied with $900 gross as a lifestyle, but it beats the daylights out of the $400 I grossed last week. This week I should gross around $1300, I think.

The mileage pay at Celadon isn't as much as Gordon offers but the miles were more consistent.

There's still the crap that comes with any big company. You learn the system and work within it.

I should have Googled it. This explains WageLock.

    http://www.driveceladon.com/blog/2015/11/10/wagelock-q-and-a

    Q. What is WageLock?
    A. WageLock is a program that Celadon has created to ensure our good drivers who are doing their job get paid – even during periods of lower available miles.

    Click link for longer explanation.

Better than I could tell it--Thanks on behalf of everyone wondering along with you.

Everyone--if you move to Celadon wait til I can get you my driver number so I can collect big bucks in referral fees and get my 96 Grand Sport.
