I'll never pay for truck stop WiFi again, anyways. Tired of having a full signal and not being able to use it. Just throwing money away.

I saw that sign once too. Something gave me the impression that the "free" wifi was "in store" only... So they might have a weak network that's free but doesn't reach very far... Then the pay service reaches the trucks... Well, trucks parked close enough to the building to get it... LOL

It would be easy for them to give free wifi to their card holding customers. Just enter the building, swipe your card at the kiosk and select "free 24 hour wifi" then it spits out a code to use back in the truck.

Just like free showers. Drivers could earn free access credit per fill up or after so many gallons per month get a free month... Again, just like the showers.

You'd be shocked to know the number of Wondering WiFi spots that are connected to dial-up on the back end.

Free WiFi at some PFJs now, It says it's for a limited time.
Guess to show it actually works now?

I always wondered who was paying for it.

Is anyone really surprised? All the major truck stops gouge for fuel, gouge for everything in the store, gouge at the restaurant. Look at the price of diesel there and then watch for small gas stations and what they are selling diesel for. I know most company drivers get told where to fuel and their company gets a discount, but for the last of us independents, the big players don't seem to want my business (I am not on NASTC).

At the same time, the service is almost non-existent, as in if you want to buy said variety store chocolate bars chips whatever, you often have 1 maybe 2 cashiers working the registers (usually the most inept employees they have) and 4 or 5 supervisors or managers and a long line of customers waiting to pay. Too often I have waited, only to put down whatever it is I had intended to buy, and walked out. Now I don't even bother. And they still have lines of customers!!! Should call them shepherds instead of cashiers ...

There's a reason they call it " Wandering Wi-Fi ", it wanders everywhere except to your truck. Garbage service plain and simple. You can be parked on top of the antenna and you still can't get crap. One of the little mysteries always gets me that you can get to the login page, pay for what you want then try in vain to connect to the internet. Their most famous question? " Are there any trucks around you? "
