I see they finally sent a "be safe" msg once conditions finally forced THEM to shut down. And another once folks started trying to roll into the yard and getting stuck. Amazing.
Just imagine how long it's going to take everyone to dig themselves out once the roads are clear. Man! I feel for all of them. This storm is definitely one for the record books. I haven't seen too much on live tv, but from the news reports on the radio, it's going to be quite a while to even get things halfway normal. Bless all of those folks who try to keep it moving. Please stay safe and warm everyone, wherever you may be.
I'm still a bit irritated that the only load out of Chicago available to me (dripping with sarcasm on that) was to head directly into an area that has almost 3' of snow. I mean, come on. With all the places we pick up around there, nothing available but that? I should've said no, if I'm going to sit, I'll sit here where I can bob tail to do stuff instead of being shut down at a truck stop until whenever and dealt with whatever backlash happened. I'm certainly not the best driver in the world, but I'm certainly not the worst and know there are plenty of places to go work if it came down to it.And I know no one would give a crap, either.
It is one thing to already have been on a load headed that way, IMO, but I got this load Friday afternoon, and of course, after my FM was gone. Thinking of maybe heading up to I-80 to get a little closer to Carlisle since last I heard the PA tpk was still shut down. Even if it does open, it's going to be packed for a while with folks that have been stuck on it trying to get moving. Or I might just stay here and get a 34. At least I'm not sitting in a crap-ton of snow like some of you guys. I absolutely abhor that stuff and it has nothing to do with trucking why I don't like it, so don't start in on me with any "fair weather driving" crap,

70 and 270 were closed by the governor in MD, in no small part because drivers thought they could (had to) drive yesterday. 40+ mph winds and three feet of snow is the definition of impassable.
Anyone being pulled out should lose their license for being that stupid.RebelChick Thanks this. -
Well when I finally get out of the Beckley service plaza, it will be a very long time until I stop here again. 58 hours in this place has me over it,

@RebelChick
I know I-80 is not the preferred route but when safety is a concern, I would have no problem taking whatever road is the best, and safest, option.
But I agree, maybe find a safe spot to park, take a 34, and wait it out. No need to throw another truck into the mess ahead.
Be safe no matter what you choose.RebelChick Thanks this. -

I left the Travel Plaza in Beckley Friday morning at 7:30 and headed toward Stuarts Draft. Made it to Raphine Va. at the Petro at noon and sit there until today. It was a mess in that lot with all the trucks but they finally had to shut the entrance down so they could get the lot under control. Trucks parked everywhere. It was a total chaos. But I finally delivered to Target this morning and now I am home until Tuesday morning.
