To the poster, don't be afraid to ask someone at the shipper the best way to get to an interstate, and a CB would help in a jam to. Just thinking about that night gives me focus lol

I put a JB Hunt truck in a runaway ramp in 1996 under a Ford plant automotive load for around Newport news , Virginia when I was 23. On interstate 68 going from west Virginia to Virginia going down Sandstone mountain , it has a curve at the bottom

Some of the local roads are nuts. Between our farm and the highway is a grade I take in 6th (13 speed), as long as I get a run at it. And I'm empty....... 4th when loaded.

Personally, passes are boring. You know they are coming, you climb really hard and try not to go into overdrive or catch on fire on the way down.

The real exciting stuff is when you take a back road and there are unmarked but often brief grades approaching 10% or so that you don't see coming.

what exactly do the %'s of the grades mean? I get the higher the number the steeper but like is it the percentage of elevation that is lost or what?

I see someone didn't pay attention in geometry class. The grade percentage, is the angle of climb, or descent.
