I've found a school in my area that says they will train me with no money down as long as I agree to work for Stevens? All of the other schools want $1500 down. No company will train me because I live in Miami so I have to go to a school first. Training through a comapany IS NOT AN OPTION for me. Anyone have any experience to heard anything about Stevens?
Info on Stevens?

Never worked there but have heard not so good thigs.
Made friends with an X Stevens driver he said he sat a lot.
But thats second hand information.
I truly believe you get out what you put in.
Good Luck! -
I missed something; training through a company IS NOT and option, but yet letting Stevens pay for school with a contract to work for them is OK.
I know 2 drivers at Stevens and they told me the same thing that @Poacher posted.
I'd rather let CRST train me and they do hire in Miami.bigounce Thanks this. -
All of the companies with schools do not hire South Florida residents. There are companies that hire in South Florida but none of them have schools. Except for CRST from what I know. I've been looking around for awhile. Do you know a company that has a school and will train South Florida residents?

All of the companies want me to get my CDL through a school and then give them a call.

Not positive other than CRST, but try these:
Wil-Trans
Celadon
Southern Refrigerated Transport
Western Express
U.S. Express-just started cdl school in MS
Carolina Logistics
Roehl Transport
Call their toll free number and ask or do the online app. -
CR England advertises Free truck Driving school . Celadon advertises free truck driving school. Prime Inc. Pays you $600 dollars a week to go through their truck driving school. They greyhound bus you to a motel and your drug screen and physical is on the first day.

But you are training through Stevens... they have an affiliation with that school. Because of texas laws, they can no longer train out of state students in Texas, so they have affiliated with schools in other states to provide the school training needed...
As far as working for stevens, they are a training company, no more no less.. pay is on the low side, average miles for the first 6 months is 2500 per week, regardless of what recruiters tell you. Living in florida, you will only get home every 6 to 8 weeks... not enough freight out of that state. Stevens REQUIRES you to stay out 5 weeks at a time.
And READ and UNDERSTAND the contract before you sign for any company sponsored school training. What are the time requirements, costs, and what happens if you quit or be terminated before the contract is up. -
These companies do not hire from South Florida
-
Prime doesn't hire from South Florida?
