Turning a fixed tandem axle to a spread axle

Is the trailer spring ride or air ride now?

 

I took a sliding tandem and made it into a spread. A fixed can't be much more difficult. Just a matter of buying the suspension parts and brackets and breaking out the welder.

 

I run a 53 van too. What advantage is it to make it a fixed spread? Wont the tire scuff a lot??

 

Some states you can haul more than the 80k while in others if you are loaded heavy on the trailer you can roll with it. You can go to 40k on a spread vs 34 on a tandem.

 

A rear axle dump serves the same purpose and is a fraction of the cost. 200 bucks vs 2500. To ideally you want both. The ability to lift the front axle when you don't need it for weight purposes greatly reduces rolling resistance for efficiency, and obviously reduces tire wear.

 

Yep. To add to this, a spread makes it almost impossible to load a wagon wrong. The only time i worry about weighing is if i think i may be over gross.

 

This is true if the loader has half a clue to what he is doing. Its very easy to be over on the drives if loaded wrong.
