If he had a blown head, you would have that chocolate milkshake looking goop on tthe inside of the valve covers.

The dipstick oil can look fine, but if you let the engine sit, the coolant will separate and sit on the bottom of the oil pan. With tge top of the motor clean, I would have to think coolant is getting in through another way.

 

I will say that from experience, coolant/water is not the only thing that will cause white smoke. Raw, unburned fuel will make white smoke as well. I was sent out to look at an excavator one time because of white smoke, rough running and low power. Turned out the common rail pressure sensor was stuck, telling the ECM the fuel pressure was very, very low. ECM responded by telling the fuel pump to max out fuel delivery in attempt to bring fuel pressure up to spec. The result was tons of white smoke. If you have 2 injectors that have failed wide open, you definitely could be seeing white smoke along with a rough running engine. The fact your coolant plays "hide and seek" makes me suspect there might be a 2nd issue with the head/headgasket though.

 

pull those 2 inj out spin the engine over if water comes flying out it a head gasket or cracked head.and you wont need the injectors.

 

You could tell by the exhaust smell too. If it's unburnt fuel it will smell like diesel fuel. Coolant it will smell like antifreeze.

 

The levelers came off and it's still running rough because the cam is shot.

 

You are burning coolant. EGR is borked. I've had this happen on 3 ISX engines this summer. Get thee to a dealer and watch it take weeks to fix. My old truck at western had this happen. 1.5 months later it's still at a dealer with the engine block out.
