Kevin Rutherford?? God no... I will admit on the rare occasions I'm working on a late weekend afternoon I will listen but no, don't think you'll ever hear Hawk from Virginia calling.
But I kinda wanna try flats again but more than likely it will be over here at LS. My buddy just put a truck on over here and I'm kinda following him to see how he progress in seeing if I'm interested or not.
Theres a bulk tanker outfit in interested in here in VA but unfortunately they don't hire O/Os. If i was force to close up shop, VW and them would probably be my first call, right now I'm just trying to survive this downturn in freight. Hopefully things will pick back up soon

Just wondering if van wyk has owner operators? If so, what percentage do they pay and how many miles can you expect?

I thought it was 70% of gross... at one point you had to have a 5 year or newer truck...

What I meant by my post was that it's plenty of freight over there and you don't have to worry about trying to reach a "mileage quota"...Plenty of good paying freight as well. -

Make sure to ask them about rates in different lanes and figure out if it will work for you. I just left after 5 months for another company that runs on flat mileage rate(as a company driver). They aren't a terrible company, but they hired me to run out midwest(live in NEPA) and I had some really ####ty paying loads going out from hometime (one load paid .82cpm to the truck from NJ to WI). They do have some loads that pay upwards of 3.00/mi running NE, but then your dealing with shorter miles, more wait time and depending where you are, possibly more time deadheading believe it or not.

Van Wyk will do what's in their best interest to make a buck , and if you're percentage , at say 24% , and they're gonna try to force you to load in Norfolk going to GreenBay , an 87cpm load , you're gonna be doing well to make a 100.00 for 600 miles , and 100.00 for the same on day 2. Then you're empty in a broker area again. and could be a 3rd day of 100.00 dollar a day frt. That's for guys that got their CDL's yesterday. I was driving 20yrs when they tried that crap with me. I picked the load up , only because he promised to get me a hot seat home next morning and I quit. I'd rather be job hunting than to work for a company that could careless you have a place to call home , meaning if you can't pay the mortgage , it's better for them , they can have you live in their truck for 3 qtrs 2 dimes and a nickel. What a bargain.
