I just got my CDL back In June of '15. I drove for a while over the road then came home. I obtained a dockworking job. They had a random drug test. Not sure about other companies, but at this job they didn't include dockworkers. Because I have a CDL, they put me in the pool. I failed. Do u feel it's right that they still put me in the pool, even though I don't drive for them? Is my driving career over because of this? I'm kinda lost at this point. Please help

    - Thanks

Yup, efectivly over. Thats it. You may be able to keep your cdl alive, and wait 8 or more years, then hire on with a mega... but your done. The feds and insurance have no sympathy for drug use.

I would ask your current company for help with your drug problem, concede you have an issue and get some help. Tell them you appreciate their employment and would like another chance. The fact that they hire drivers and have drug screen consortium tells me they would have a drug rehabilitation program that would meet the FMCSA and insurance company standards.
If you ever want to be a professional, responsible, commercial driver you have a problem, so get some help and maybe keep your current job.

You must do a SAP program and follow the DOT return-to-duty protocol. If you do it, companies still have no obligation to hire you. It is at their discretion. It will be tough to get another driving job.

Was it a DOT drug test? Do you know if they reported it? Slim chance it doesn't even show.

They called me yesterday and told Me that they would have to report it. I asked after I went through the program if I could come back. They said I could reapply. I think they were just being nice tho

That's overkill for a dockworker. I wouldn't say you're done because there's always a company willing to look passed it after you do the return-to-duty stuff and you might be able to use the fact that you weren't in a driving position at the time to persuade them but your chances definitely got lowered.

    Western express will hire anybody....
they prefer people nobody else will hire so they can pay you bottom feeder pay.

But since you caused your own problem this is what you are left with....

One must decide what is more important in life... partying or a career.

Are you in a union? When I was in a UAW job, a guy showed up smelling of bourbon and tested positive but didn't get fired because the union pulled some strings and the test results "dissappeared".
