There is no definite price for an inframe because there are simply too many different combinations of what can actually be done or needed during the rebuild. Some guys only get 6 pistons and liners installed, that is an inframe, sort of, and very cheap. Other guys have a reman head, injectors, water pump, oil pump, oil cooler, the list goes on, those are expensive. Your kinda comparing apples to oranges.

Comparing an out of frame rebuild to an inflame is not a balanced equation. An out of frame rebuild / reman is going to have a lot more done to it, including incidental items like engine mounts and other stuff, as part of the rebuild. The major remans will have scans and magna flux done to the block to find any flaws as well. You get what you pay for. As was stated earlier, a total out of frame rebuild, especially a reman from the manufacturer, will be a better long term investment. Not to mention that it would also come with a warranty like a brand new engine. And downtime is greatly reduced swapping engines.
Heavyd Thanks this. -
I had inframe done 2 years ago at 1.3 mil miles. cost $6800 plus tax. head reworked, rod's mains, pistons, sleeves, all gaskets, injector seals, i'm sure I am forgetting other minor things done. basically a inframe kit with the labor for $6800 11.1 ser 60 detroit

2 years ago.... lets see the US Dollar has lost approximately 20% of it value in that time so adjust accordingly for today. Sorry, just thinking out loud.

Detroits are very inexpensive compared to C and C.

A crate motor, 12.7 Detroit at a FL dealership for an acquaintance in a Columbia was around 16K late last year.
N-14 in a FLD 120 was over or around 25 K 3 years ago at another dealership of the same group. That 1 I drove for a short hop, it never was quite right. One mate to those trucks (3 of them w/ factory 525hp 1850 torque with 18 speeds) sat for 3 years, and then got an engine and transmission from a new rollover, that is a better running outfit. -
Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I just got quoted 16.5k on a complete out of frame. Includes everything but rip and replace because they don't do that at this particular facility. 16 month unlimited miles warranty. Not sure what to think. It's for a detroit 60 12.7L pre egr. I don't have a truck yet and i was getting quotes for the possibility. This place is 1 mile from where i live. The salesman wasn't very good and i had to ask specifically for details and it seemed like i was wating his time for making him call me. But that aside, is this a decent price? It is not oem parts but the shop manager assured me he swears by the aftermarket parts he gets.
Thx for replies. -
that's about 1/2 what freightliner dealerships have told me, for parts only. and they are also sure to pad yiur bill.

One factor also in doing a factory remanned crate motor, is that it comes with a 3 yr / 300,000 mile warranty from the OEM and not the shop.
tommymonza Thanks this.
