Sounds like a full on random search, your (un)lucky day. And all the posts detailing the rights you give up at the border are correct. I guess they could even hold you for a period of time without charging you, I have been tossed at the border twice in the 40 years I have been crossing, but nothing as severe as you describe. Your decision to forgo border crossings is understandable, we are having a harder and harder time getting drivers willing to do it, and just keep on charging higher and higher rates.
Well I'm done with Canada forever.

His problem was his pics of his guns, but really that was just a pretext. Guns are legal personal property in the US, and if I was given crap over that all I would say is, I don't have them with me now.. -

That's what the US officers do to us. Had very little issues in the last few years. Only at the known ports where they check the truck every time. But resently I was checked again after about 6 years.

I've been hearing about the border crossing woes since I started by driver's. I've questioned why anyone wants to cross. why not move it all by rail.

Got to the USborder at N Portal. Had a US custom guy trash my truck. I go back to my truck and i see shoe prints on my mattress. I walk back in to the customs office, in the midst of the tourists ans that punk who trashed my truck smirked.
" You are an effin a Hole!"
'Driver, you don't talk to me like that!'
"F you and the sourpuss you rode in on!"
'I can arrest you...'
"Come and get me."
A supervisor stepped up to me and asked me what was wrong. I told him about how the guy stood on my bed with muddy boots. Flat top truck. Unless youre shorter than 4 ft tall, theres absolutely no reason to ever do that. He gave me a card and the guy's badge number. There is a place to file complaints.
I used to go to Canada all the time, but now because of the hassle, I need to see $10000 minimum for a general freight load, oversized and tarp pay has to knock it near $15grand.MACK E-6, Lepton1, bentstrider83 and 4 others Thank this.
