Since 12,000 is what's left after 34k/34k, it's incorrectly assumed that it's the "law" when it's merely the leftover amount after you subtract 68k from 80k. I do believe the set back axle on the Freightliner and International cabovers were always rated at 13,200 since they bore a lot of weight. I've had to load my steers near 13,000 lbs a time or two due to piss poor weight distribution in the trailer. In a perfect world we would all have 12,000 34,000 34,000 CAT scale tickets.

If it were me, I would have said "#### the policy" and moved the 5th wheel and made my delivery. If they wanted to fire me over it, they could kiss my fat German/Irish Hispanic ###.

Basically megas have decided drivers are dumb...and who can blame them...so they use the 12/34/34 ratio.

Bet the next thing you will tell us is that it's illegal to run over 34K in the tandems in all states.

 

Or 80,000 lbs.

43500 they said . Bacardi rum.
Quarter tank of fuel. Weighed : 80,200. Didn't feel like going back. Avoided the first 2 scales. I would run it down to empty , cross a scale, then buy enough fuel to be on empty at the next scale. Etc. Chained 4 times. Showed up 4 hours before my appt with all the freight they ordered. Well, that's how I did things.

It is in Texas where I spend most of my time, and if you don't think the dot here won't write you a ticket, then go ahead and try them. Be my guest. I know guys that have got tickets or a couple hundred pounds over...depends on the dot officer at the scale...some are real p@icks.

 

I will agree with you though, if you can slide an axle to correct, get er done, no one wants to go back to the shipper if it can be avoided. Waste of time and money.
