The Stars are the one truck that does not look well with a flat top sleeper or a small sleeper. I think that they look their best with a 68" or longer sleeper and midroof or higher.

If you have never driven a Western Star you are missing out. Ron has to stop for his 30 minute break because he has to walk over to get his lunch. There is that much room in the Star cab. On a KW or Pete I can put my arm straight out and reach 2/3 of the way across the passenger seat. On the Western Star I can touch the armrest.

I saw a 5700 recently with a drop axle and no petticoats. Man that thing was sharp looking. Only if they had not chosen to paint it all white. Another color would have looked better.

I have been looking into the 5700 just because I like the looks of them better than other things out there. I have discovered that the skirts are an option, not a standard item. With the exhaust you have the rear of sleeper option, the weed burner option and I just learned the option of the traditional side stacks. Now that would be a cool looking ride. Or if you could get the triple stacks behind the sleeper.

Basically, everything behind the bumper and hood is a 4700, 4900 or 6900. You can get the same things. I was concerned about the frame rails because I have seen what Mack did with their Vision 460 and how cheap and thin the frame rails were. I was assured that I could get the same frame rails as I could get in the 4900. I think he said that he had 5 different frame rails he could spec for that truck.

If someone were to give me my choice of truck it would be a Western Star. I have personally seen how they have held up to abuse.

    Straight Stacks Thanks this.

C.R. England has some of those new Western Stars. They look really good in red, minus their logo.

The best OTR tractor I ever run was a WS....The only two drawbacks were, they were heavy like a Mack Superliner was, and they didn't like right turns, one had to really watch that, even worse than a long hooded Pete....Definitely not made for local work....Other than that, dependable, lots of room and a real nice ride.....
