This has been going on in the trucking industry at least the last 25 years. Hiring never stops, fleet expansion never stops, yet the growth of the their fleet size has ALWAYS outpaced the growth of their freight movements/miles (in percentage terms). And the kicker is, their profits each year are at least 5% over last. Somebody, somewhere is getting screwed and I doubt it's the guy living in the big house on the big hill, overlooking the community of taxpayers that are having to deal with his tax deferment package offered by the county to keep him there.

there's probably a driver turn over rate, dispatch usually doesnt hire or fire depends on the size of company.
freight seems to always be slow this time of year. economy, there's 99 driver's ahead of you, get in line..Toomanybikes and jethro712 Thank this. -

do they have one or a few short runs to get you in a better position where freights not so dry? or will you sqeak to much by inquiring? then again they could figure that out with out asking.
jethro712 Thanks this. -
The problem with the larger fleets (especially 48 state fleets) is the only thing that is consistent, is inconsistency. The larger the fleet, the wider the spread can be between a "bad week" and a "good week". Best bet (if available) is to get onto a dedicated part of their business offering.
Freight is cyclical from region to region and quarter to quarter, especially when dealing with <900 mile avg freight length of haulsjethro712 Thanks this.
