OK, I will start my PSD training in Springfield, MO on March 7th. I'm not new to Trucking because I use to work for Swift Transportation from 2006 to 2008. It's been over 7 years since I haven't driven a truck but I still got SOME skills to do it. I am starting fresh once again with a company that is direct and willing to train to new recruit 1 on 1 rather than a group which I have experience and it wasn't good to learn so I'm starting all over again. My recruiter tells me that the pay is good from 39.5 cent a mile in a full size truck to start and and extra .05 cent added to drivers on a lightweight truck which is 44.5 cent a mile. Can some one tell me can a company driver will be able to pick which truck he/she can choose after finish training.
I also was told once you are committed for one year your the fee will drop but if you quit and drive for another company you have to pay the tuition . I was told that after 9 months you can be eligible to start as a lease purchase operator. Can someone tell what it is that Prime Inc. can offer.

Truck assigned & whatever choice you may have will be based on what is available at that time.
1yr completes obligation. Leave after at least 6mos, you will only owe 1/2 of that.
Last I was told by leasing, they wanted to see a regular lease completion before any lease purchases.

First, take everything you experienced at swift with regards to pay and accounts and throw that out the window. Prime doesn't do stupid accounts. Second, the rate you get paid in a Walmart account is more then regular otr. When I ran the Walmart account I was averaging $.53/mi. They pay you really well for running walmart accounts.
The lease purchase program requires a $14,000 down payment and an additional $1,000 if you want the apu. There is no waiting period for that.
The regular lease program you can enter as soon as your training is done. Don't recommend that though. Drive company until spring of next year. I say that because by the time you finish training and then 6 months solo you'll be right smack dab in the middle of winter. Not a good time to come on board as a lease driver. Freight is low from the first of the year to March/April. Unless you're familiar with running a successful business that is profitable I would wait.
As a company driver you're taken care of very well and usually first over lease trucks.
Just remember, prime is way different from swift. Leave all your past baggage at the bus station and keep an open mind. Don't compare everything to how swift was or did it. It'll make the transition to a real company easier for you
