    Before i ask this...again i'm not a driver yet and don't have a cdl.

My question is about shifting into neutral. When i look at the shift pattern on these eaton 10 speeds it shows a line going through the middle seperating the top gears from the bottom gears. Is neutral exactly in the middle of the gear box like in car? or is neutral anywhere on that middle line between the top gears and the bottom gears? It's kind of hard for me to explain. The reason why i ask is for double clutching. Clutch neutral, clutch gear but do you have to find neutral in the middle or is it right above or below the gear you are in?

Say you are in 2lo and you want to shift to 3lo you just pull the stick straight down out of 2nd and that's neutral? or do you have to go to the center of the gear box to neutral then back down and over to 3lo?

I know sounds confusing but i tried to explain the best i could.

You run straight lines, say 4th to 5th, your at the far right, you dont need to move left for nut, before 5th, nut is there from far left to far right in the middle... think i exsplained it...... maybe counfused myself... :)

See the horizontal line in the middle. That whole line area is not neutral? So if i go from 4 to 5 i have to first go up and to the left to the center neutral then up and right to 5?

Also try to use a light touch when shifting a eaton. When done right, light pressure from 2 fingers will shift it. Death grip will hurt like hell if you miss a gear and it mule kicks the stick back

Thanks that's a big help. I was thinking double clutching would be a nightmare because of having to find the neutral if its in the center. But if it's just below or above the gear you are in then i don't see why people say double clutching is a pain or hard?

Its a timming game that people struggle with, its like dancing a waltz. Clutch, neu, clutch, gear. Think of it like a 4 count beat, well doing that while worring about the kid on the bike, the guy eating a sammy while driving, the mom with screaming kids in the minnivan, the woman texting and driving, getting your turn wide enough to not remove the hood of jon q law in the next lane, and where is my driveway im looking for, and why is my quallcom beeping now? And do i have enough fuel...... its a combination of new and scary. Focus, take your time, find your rythem. All will be good

Also, flip your spliter "before" leaving 5th, there is a lag in most of the air switchs, if you wait till your in neu, to flip, you may find yourself grinding as the truck thinks you want first? Then by the time it flips your rpms are off, no big, just goose the go pedel to fix it. But thats not that easy for most new blood. If you miss a gear, dont panic looking for it. Ajust your rpms and gear choice to match your road speed. If that means while downshifting you miss 4th, as long as your slowing, just line up for third, a little brake to fix road speed, and a little gas to fix rpm, clutch and poof.... 3rd gear
