    I agree.

I took my brother-in-law for a ride a few years ago when he was interested in trucking. It was a short Saturday run (local, in a daycab) where I had to start at 2am, but would be done in less than 6 hours. During that time, I told him about some of the difficulties of OTR work and how 95% of drivers get their start there because companies like the one I had worked for required 2 years experience.

By the time we got done, he was no longer enthusiastic about driving for a living. Better for me to honestly explain how it is than for a recruiter to romanticize it for him.

Big Don and Grijon Thank this.

local farmers don't pay that great and a commute to and from work in a city would get old

I agree there is nothing wrong with starting at the bottom it's a process and those of us who are at the top of the industry now years after climbing the latter are here because we are clearly good at what we do so many new drivers will never make 3 or 5 years because they are not focused on what's important " don't hit anything"

There's LTL here which I have applied online and in person as well as talk to some in person about status of my applcation. Here in Sioux City they do want exp as well as a good work history and yes they all have a turn over rate. Its like why not give me a chance.the drivers you do hire don't work out. What city and state do you live in?
