I believe that you didn't need school back then, but how did you pass the driving test without practice?

I see this question wasn't answered so here is what happened.

We didn't have to take a driving test back then, At-least not in my state. We just paid the $10.00 for a chauffeurs license, then eventually when the CDL became law we were grandfathered in. I grandfathered in mid 1991. I have never taken a test . 2 million + later and still haven't taken a test.

I did the same. My brother-in-law did the same when he was laid off from a teachers position. He bought the chauffeurs for $10.00 then walked in to a trucking company office and was hired without a road test. The company sent him on a several hundred mile trip and said "don't worry, by the time you get back you'll know how to drive."

What other companies do besides Roehl. My problem is we wouldn't make the bills if I was at school not getting paid. My current work schedule prevents me from being able to do day, evening or weekend classes, so I would have to quit work first, and that would create an employment gap, which i don't want. With grants and tuition reimbursement it's not the cost of school that is my issue, it's cost of living until that first trucking paycheck comes in.
