Wonder if it's like the Maxxforce engine brake. That one needed the rpms to be above 1800 for it to be effective.

It might be. Luckily I'm trading Thursday s pile of junk in next week for a Cummins. Another thing with the paccar is that with the engine brake on I can't float it to save my life. When it's off it floats great. With it on it drops the rpm's like a hot rock

(Standing corrected) -
The new engines need to be run at 2000-2200 rpm to get a real engine brake. As long as you don't hit the red rpm's you're fine. I go downhill with my Volvo engine between 2000-2200 and the engine brake works great! Check your max rpm and go up to there. With only 1700 or 1800 it doesn't work perfect!
