Hi Im New to this forum.
Im have been driving for almost 7 year as company driver and one year was a Dispacher.. worked from top company to smallest company, have seen everything. I have brought 4 clients for my current company boss. Which he paid me 800 for each, we know he is making more and that is good for him for now. I enjoy the life of trucking I love it.

Im in process of getting My Authorities. I know trucking Industries isn't easy. but life isn't easy simple. that been said i have second career selling cars for the past 9 years which i enjoy it too.

I have $125000 cash in bank.

here is where you guys coming in for help.this will be one men show.

here are the option i have regarding buying a truck and reefer.

    1. Buy a new truck Volvo or Freightliner from dealership and put 15% down

    2. Buy a used truck from one of those Dealership Arrow Truck sales or from fleet get something like 11-13 with 480-550 Miles, pay the crazy stupid price they are selling for. keep in mind once the factory warranty runs out, that unit should sell way cheaper the the current price.

    3. buy from dealer auction used one,11-13 way cheaper then Number 2 what they are selling for and pay for it and make New bill of Sale take it to bank to a get loan for it. here is what I'm thinking for Example If i get a unit for $380000 and Retail price is $58000. used the $15000 for downpayment. this way i get my 38000 + $5000 back to my back account. for the reefer trailer i will buy 2009-2012 payout just wanna do one loan. they have to be good unit for 2 reason 1 Ontario Canada MTO (DOT) scales are very busy. and two of those company I haul for they have freight to California too, this way i don't have worry about CARB

With that kind of reserve, do something else instead of trucking. There isn't any money in it anymore. Use it for another kind of business. This industry has gone to trash. To blow 125k just to make an average around 100-150k gross maybe and owing uncle sam back a big chunk of change is silly.

I would stay away from anything in the 2008 to 2013 range. And DPF is a nightmare unless you are a large fleet and know how to service them.

Key is to understand more than just trucking but the various things that impact the industry. Example of this would be things like the manufacturing index and inventory levels. Both of those where in the wrong position for trucking 2nd half of last year.

Right now, if you can keep your cost of operation below $.80 per mile and have a solid handle on what your daily fixed costs are you can not only make it but do well.

Many people with far less experience have been successful in this business.

This forum is a huge source of knowledge. Search, read, ask questions and have a thick skin.

If something makes sense but you don't understand why, learn why, don't just accept something, good or bad, as fact.

If somebody grosses 100-150k, does not mean everybody does. This man seems like he has a brain, he has experience, and he has a startup capital. He is already a step above than majority of people who want to start a business. I am sure he can be successful

I was using the 100-150k as a gross average. But I tell you what. He could be successful in his own way but it'd take a while maybe and a lot of duties for just one truck/trailer to make a living. It's all part of the business but having 125k and using it for this part of the industry that fluctuates often at this state, I don't find any logic in it. Some people don't take into account the sacrifice of having your own authority/equipment. But it's so easy, a caveman can do it. To each its own though, good luck to you OP

Ha, obviously the money is not going to come to you right? I don't know what amount of monies you're speaking of that is there, so I can't say anything regarding to that.
