I suppose there is always a state that would come up with something like that, but I have never heard of it before. House and land, yes. Truck? Seems kind of goofy. That is what base plates and registration are for.

Some common wealth states like Va charge a luxury tax on personal vehicles. I dont know how that would work on a commercial vehicle. Seems a bit off to me.
Hurst77fib77 Thanks this. -
In Alabama I have permanent plate on my trailers so have to pay property tax on them. Never heard of having to pay it on a truck but with our Gooberment wanting more and more from us I wouldn't be surprised. I would call the state its registered in and ask them.

Here in VA, and a couple of other states I've heard, you pay a personal property tax on vehicles. It's pretty messed up, definitely a government money grab. Nothing you can do about it, I did check, just bend over....

NC has property tax also.
-
Some of the counties in Texas also assess a personal property tax on commercial vehicles.
Hurst Thanks this. -
I think thats total BS. Commercial trucks are taxed on so many different things,.. for a state to demand an additional property tax just for owning it is ludicrous to me.
Hurstd o g Thanks this. -
These personal property taxes are assessed by local appraisal districts instead of the state, but that was my position on it, too, Hurst. But, that argument didn't matter. They'll sue you for it and they'll win. Then you can just add attorney fees and court costs to the bill. Ask me how I know.
Justrucking2 and Orange713 Thank this. -
I live in Missouri and they charge property taxes on trucks, trailers and other business equipment. The tax on trucks and trailers used in interstate commerce are assessed according to the percentage of use in Missouri.
Even Arkansas charges a property tax on trucks according to the percentage of miles that are run in their state. Arkansas's tax is called an "Ad Valorem" tax. Hope I spelled that right. I have to pay it even though I live in Missouri.
