Some places say no dunnage with splits in it. I've not had a problem and mine is crap but it's what my company provides.
I can see that dunnage with a split would break easier as it is weakened but I think it would depend of the direction the force is applied. If the force is pushing the split together I would think it's fine. Now take that board with a split and toss it off the deck letting the end hit the ground first and it'll snap.
