A note on unions from my perspective.

Even though I spent the last half of my FAA career in management dealing with a CBA, fighting various office reps, and generally grousing about the union that represents the professional inspector and technician workforce, I never hid the fact that before I got into management, I was one of the first office reps in the country when the union was certified decades ago. That, of course, gave me a great deal of familiarity with what a "good" union rep can do, what a "bad" one should never do, and the details contained in the language of the CBA.

I was always a company guy, so I used the CBA when I was a union rep and I used it when I was a manager; I just used it differently, much to the irritation of the reps I dealt with as a manager. And I never lost.

Our country's manufacturing prowess was built with the strength of unions who struck, fought, and even died for worker rights. Because our CEO's have shipped almost all our manufacturing offshore, our unions have lost numbers, power, and strength. They will never be like they once were, but we should all thank the George Meany's of the country; they did a good thing.

Heinze in Holland is where delivery appointments are just a guideline from what I gather.
My time is for 11pm, but I'm checked in , just waiting. As that is the name of the game.

I kind of like places like that, unlike the Nestle "appointments" I've had the past couple of weeks. Today, for example, my appointment was 0500 and I arrived at 0445. Receiving clerk says 'drop your trailer in the yard and back into the one in Door 103.'

Good, I think. The load is ready so I'll be on my way soon.

    Uh huh.

I left at 1045. You see, only the trailer was in Door 103. There was no freight actually in the trailer. 5 hours of detention. Wanna bet Nestle disputes it?

Because of our contract with nestle/purina, we can't charge detention, only layover. So if you sit overnight , you get the. $100 but 5 hrs being loaded will get you nowhere , because they will adjust delivery time accordingly to make it doable , most of the time .

9 times out of 10 though, I'm either preloaded or loaded with 90 minutes.

This morning didn't start as well as I planned.
I left out of Heinze, and didn't make it 3 miles, when I was driving through an intersection that had flashing yellow my side, and flashing red the other way.
A car ran the red and crashed into me. The car was wedged under my passenger side of the bumper.
I was not at fault, no ticket, and I have several witnesses that said they saw her run it.
I also have the dash cam.
Because I drive slow, she survived and was taken away by ambulance. I was able to drive the truck to the yard in walker.
Now my wife is on her way to pick me up.
