I'm having a heard time understanding how this happened? The article states the truck was parked meaning it was at a dead stop. So this dog popped both buttons and managed to press the clutch and shift it into gear? I never driven an automatic, so not sure how they operate.

More than likely it was "parked" in neutral but forgot to pull the air brakes... Then it probably simply began to roll forward and the dog just went along for the ride. Well, until it stopped.

Eaton Autos default to neutral if the brakes are pulled, not sure about the rest.

Also,, not everyone pulls both brakes, I sure don't when it's cold enough to freeze. Also depending on the pressure, its easier to push in valves, custom handles more surface area for the dogs pads.

Our dog does the same thing here. He can push down on the Handel and come out into the garage. They are very smart.

The brakes really isn't an issue for me, we're talking about a good size animal, not a toy dog. So I can see it getting excited and jumping around and popping the breaks.

The part that threw me was the article stated the animal tossed the vehicle into gear? I'm guessing this is a writer/editor mistake? And the vehicle was actually in neutral.

I would wager, a writing error.
