Hey all,
I posted a similar question yesterday, but now I have full details. I would love any input anyone has. I figured this would be a great place to get input from drivers of all levels.
So I have 2 options to choose from.
#1. Start class through a tech school that runs Monday, May 2th- Thursday, May 26th.
4 days a week=3 Weeks total

Cost is $3,995 up front.
I would then have the freedom to apply for any company I would want.
I have already spoken with Magnum, Melton and Schneider. They all seem happy to hire recent grads.
Magnum pays 34cpm to start and then they pay by performance 34-46 cpm + 2 cents for Hazmat loads

#2. Go through firm-sponsored training through MCT Transportation. Class would start March 28th and run through April 15th.
3 weeks total.
MCT pays for the school
MCT Offers to be hired on as long as I pass the class.
I would train for 10,000 miles with a rider. They said roughly 3 weeks.
Training pays $500 per week.
Then I would go solo and start at 35cpm.
I would also get 3cpm deferred for 90 days. It is then paid out in a lump sum. Then I would be at 38cpm.
After 6 months, I would go up to 39cmp.
I must sign a 1 year contract, but can leave at any time. If I leave early, I just owe the pro-rated portion back.
My biggest question is if I should go the tech school route, and hope to be hired. Or go through MCT, where I know I would have a guaranteed position upon completion.
I’m going to be a white-meat rookie, so I just need some veteran direction!
Decision Time! Sponsored School?

Magnum or MCT are both OK. Depends on if you want to keep your money in the bank or spend it for tech school.
If you're ok with the tech school, then go that route and then with Magnum. Get all the endorsements while there.
Magnum has an excellent reputation.jordonhasabeard Thanks this. -
Is there a huge difference in what they teach, and how they teach? Will a company teach better than a school? -
CPM doesn't mean all that much. It's the miles you run plus accessorial pays.
Tech schools seem to be pretty comprehensive and well rounded. Company schools will teach what they deem necessary for their particular operation and protection of their equipment.
Both are good.
Either way, you can get a year experience then move on if you wish and have dozens of choices.jordonhasabeard Thanks this. -
They're both around 2500 per week.
Thanks for your input!
