Right, it's your company's responsibility. Maybe you should choose wiser. In the mid 2000's I bought 2 matching trucks and reefers from Marten. Air gauges on trucks and trailer were standard from them.

Experience has nothing to do with CSA. In fact a clean slate is better than a bunch of points from an experienced driver. Age and experience are dictated by insurance, and have been well before CSA 2010.

Whoopee frigging doo. Some of us don't have the money to buy equipment because other priorities take precedence and back then I didn't have a CDL, let alone was considering one.

Driver this isn't the 2000s anymore. Contrary to your belief, CSA does play a role in hiring new drivers nowadays because they look at a potential drivers driving record over the past 3-5 years and the effect it could have on a carrier's insurance. I had 1 speeding ticket on my record from 2013(at the time,I didn't have a CDL yet). Because of that, I literally had to wait about 6-7 months before I could apply at any carrier. NO ONE WOULD HIRE ME.And nowadays most companies want 1-2 years experience at the MINIMUM in order to consider potential driver.

Thinking @fortycalglock was suggesting that some companies might pay for it in his example. Sorry that your company isn't one of them.

Listen to the voice of experience here. Marten was putting the ability to weigh their trucks and trailers, on site, in 2000. Sorry if that is hard for you to grasp. Any company that doesn't have them on their trucks and trailers does not care about you or your time.

As far as your speeding ticket, it has NOTHING TO DO WITH CSA if you had it before a CDL! Please educate yourself on the industry you are participating in. If you get a speeding ticket in your car tomorrow, it carries ZERO CSA points. If you get one in your rig tomorrow without an inspection to go with it, it is ZERO CSA points. You have to have an inspection to get points. Your ticket was an insurance issue, or could be a timing issue, as in, there were plenty of applicants without tickets so you weren't hired. That's how hiring in trucking works a lot of times, based on need is how much they enforce their minimum standards.

My company is a bottom feeder that has a habit of buying the bare minimum in equipment. They're finally splurging on new trucks and trailers but they can't come quick enough.

New driver here myself but I too am under the impression the CSA and insurance requirements are two different things. You are correct that companies do look at a drivers experience and tickets prior to hiring them but it's more likely to be due to insurance than CSA.

And the 1-2 years of experience thing, ya well, their website might say that but that too is changing. Besides, that ticket is older now than it was then and you have 1+ years of experience, which I assume is clean.

You should not have any problems finding another company to drive for "at this time"... Unless you don't want to change companies which is totally fine too.

    Stay Safe,
    MD

The premise of this thread was that every shipper should have a certified scale on premises, which is completely impractical. So, in conclusion, it is not the shipper's fault your company and the many others like them, are cheap and don't care about their drivers or wasted time.
If you have over a year, it might be time to move on, and I don't mean to a company that advertises heavily for drivers. My second job in this industry was with a 150 company truck outfit, and I learned way more and was much happier than trucking for a mega. A huge majority of the frustrations go by the wayside when you are known by name, can walk into dispatch, safety or the presidents office after flirting with the receptionist for a minute. When your home every weekend, because you choose a company that is based where you live, this becomes a job and a more normal life. I made more money there than when I was turning and burning 4,000 miles solo, a week, in a 65/68 mph truck for a mega.

Well as the saying goes we all gotta start somewhere. But a lot a smaller outfits won't take relatively new drivers without that experience which is why most drivers are going to the mega carriers.

I have a great solution, instead of making regulation or a law that is impossible to enforce, why don't we as an industry to have mandated on truck weigh systems for both the tractor and trailer so we know what we have in weight on the truck. This would solve a lot of issues with overweight trailers.
