I've heard people say things from "Its not a big deal you will only feel a little pull just get it off to the side asap so you dont mess up the rim" to "you better be holding on to that steering wheel as hard as you possibly can because if you dont you will be flying off into the ditch!"

just looking for some insight on what to expect from people that have experienced it.

Title not to be confused with whats it like to blow a steer.

OP,you gave the answers allready.Every blowout is different. Some you will hardly notice......some will crash the truck no matter what the driver does.Main thing is to NOT hit the brakes, that will crash you for shure.

Well, to bring things back full circle, that's a good question. In 35 years and 2.5 million miles, I can't tell ya'. Never had one go. Power steering has helped a lot, as years ago, I was told, when the tire goes flat (or blows) it becomes way out of balance, and would yank the steering wheel out of your hands, but I've had friends, that said, they felt little or nothing until they saw the tire go out into the median. I think one of the biggest problems, is with a flat steer, you're dead in the water ( kind of like Super Singles) I have seen steer tires take the hoods off of dump trucks, so it can be a big deal.

I blew a steer going 60 mph it wasn't a big deal. You hear a bang .When you do a pre trip before you start your shift make sure to check those tires real good.I would say companies with good equipment you're less likely to have a blow out.But companies with old equipment you're likely to have a few blowouts .Most mine was on my drives. One time the drive tire blew and the rubber hit the mud flap bar so hard I lost the mud flap and the bar was bent so bad it needed to be welded back together.

Hi patty, mud flaps take a pretty hard hit when a drive ( or trailer) tire lets go.
