As long as they are not L/Ping for 88cpm or working for a crap rated mega, fuel consumption should be somewhat of a back priority. Depending on the rates your getting and how you run would more then make up for the little bit of money you are spending idling your truck. Not to mention the fuel is a write off.

People always tend to look at the small picture instead of the big one. Again people will do what they want and for whatever reasons they want, not my business how someone else chooses to run theirs. I'm not here to back seat guess their choices.

LOL I am lucky to get close to 4 mpg. Last load was 3.35 and that included 100 miles of deadhead. Idling is not going to make a difference for me. Or not enough of one.

I find it easier to sleep next to or in an idling truck. It blocks out ambient/road noise. Constant noise is better than the intermittent sounds.

What it boils down to is, its none of your business why they idle.

    It doesn't matter why.

I don't know about your truck but in a Crapcadia it doesn't take long for the low voltage alarm to start going off.

    Not just idle!!!!

    Optimum idle!

    XD

    I loved that function actually.

Even though I had to leave my bunk light on for the thing to work properly.

Another reason is when you start up the motor it takes a bit for the oil pump to start working and build full pressure. For a second or so at you are running with 0 oil pressure which is very abusive on engine components. More so than idling for an hour at full oil pressure IMO.

For that reason If I'm not stopping more than an hour I'll just leave it running as well.

I feel your pain friend it's something that annoys me as well I drive the Pacific northwest and rarely do you need your truck idling all night they do it because it's a habit they are typically old school big pipe truckers who have always kept it running so they keep doing what they have always done.
