reckless driving on my record

Get an attorney and hopefully they can get it reduced to improper driving or something similar depending on the state, which is much better than reckless. It may cost you around a grand for the attorney, but it will be worth every penny in the long run. The attorney will advise you to attend a driver improvement course which usually lasts a day and is inexpensive, this should add a couple of points back to your DMV record, but more importantly will show a judge that you are taking the initiative to rectify your mistake.

If you were going 90 in a 70 in a car you probably don't have the temperament to drive truck. That's how Ant company is going to view it til it's been 5 years with a clean record. And as I recall, reckless is 25 over, not 20 unless you were in a construction zone.

 

I think it really depends on what your driving record already looks like, the circumstances of the ticket, and if you have a decent attorney. I'm not sure if careless driving equals reckless driving, and it seems odd that a cop wrote a ticket for a parking lot accident. In VA I don't think the police have jurisdiction on private property, or at least it used to be that way. I just know from personal experience what getting a R/D ticket reduced entails here in VA; mine was general and not due to speeding either. If I were you, I'd ask for recommendations on attorneys from anyone you know in the area where you received the ticket and give a couple of them a call. Most have free consultations and they will advise of what they charge. Imo, if the ticket will affect your livelihood, then it's worth trying to get it reduced in court.

 

Depends on the state... in VA reckless driving for speeding is 20 mph over the maximum speed or anything over 80 mph regardless of the maximum speed. There is also general reckless driving which is a catch-all charge for anything they consider to be a danger.

You're doing 90 pretty much anywhere? Sorry, don't mean to be cruel, but you're you're being an idiot. I drive through Wyoming with steep downgrades everywhere. 80 is FAST. As in "I'm not sure how well I can control this vehicle should and emergency pop up." 90? Pulease.

I have driven vehicles at 90. And more. When I was young and stupid. I was smart enough to NOT GET CAUGHT. At 23, I have little sympathy. The OP was old enough to know better. Most companies will feel the same way and I don't blame them. It's about judgement, not not how big your testicles are. You MIGHT be the next Mario Andretti. But msot likely, you're the guy who is going to cream a 4-wheeler at 90 because you took the truck past a speed you could control and something unexpected happened. 90 MPH is not "safe" on ANY public roadway. It shows extremely poor judgment. That the OP got caught "on a hill" in a 4 wheeler is not an excuse. I never let my speed go over 79 in an 80 zone and I weigh 80k pounds. Because much over 75, my ability to control the truck should an emergency happen is EXTREMELY limited, regardless of how good my chops are.

That's the difference between "responsible" and "liability."

I sympathize with the OP. But he's gonna have a Hell of a time. And if he's gonna prevail, get the RD thrown out and join us, I sure as HELL hope he drives a truck more responsibly than he did his 4-wheeler.
