Hoping he's reading the build list and seeing what all he has that is factory and what is add on's through the years.
Then maybe starting the tear down..
I know it will take time for him.. But I'm kinda worse than a kid on Christmas eve. night wanting to know what's in the box the next morning. lol

Not only did most come from the factory without brakes, most guys, if they got one with front brakes, cut them off!

Hope he didn't have a heart attack when he calculated the cost of restoration. Lol. Thats why I sold my 72. Will use the $$ on a model railroad instead.

Yea, I believe a lot of projects no matter what they are start off well intended until you start racking up the costs and time..
I know I had a couple that I started with a low investment, then looking at build costs plus parts, it's like ok I will have this much in it, but will only be worth this much.. So you sell or part out and break even if you can

The truck I learned in had 4+4, but the brownie wasn't progressive, so we only used under direct and over. Over was a little steep, and wouldn't work with deep under. So essentially, this is how we shifted: Started in 1st under, then 2nd under. Then went up through the brownie, picking up the main in under. California, being 55, we ran in 4th direct. When my dad came to towns with 45 mph, he'd ease the brownie out, and slowly wind it up. He did it so smooth that if you weren't watching, you never felt or heard him shift. It was a work of art!

Maybe a sacrificial anode like zinc or magnesium similar to what they use on outdrives?

I tore my model railroad down a couple years ago. I still have all my models. One day when I get a bigger house I'll set them up again.

@passingthru69 I ran into the fellow that bought my 72 when I was at Peterbilts 75th show in Stockton in Oct 2014. He had a different 72 Pete that he restored there that he said he had $140K in. AND it looked like it. Beautifully restored to the way it came from factory. And no, I didnt take a picture, I was in shock!

I'm alive. No heart attack yet. I'm addressing some medical issues should be back by the end of the week.
The only two components I can find that aren't original or the main transmission and the suspension.
Just as a point of interest, I just sold a 1950s Tyco train set in the box. And a 1969 train sack in the box so I can put the money into this as well as many other things that are for sale Thanks to everyone for the continued interest.
I haven't gotten around to checking the gearboxes yet I'm sure I'll get through this weekend. I dictated this post so please pardon any typos.

    Oxbow and truckdad Thank this.

Hope all is well with the medical issues, do leave us yet. lol
You're getting getting this project started..
Speaking of trains.. When we were kids my brother and I got a train set for Christmas one year. Well we kept adding and adding.. Ended up on a plywood sheet 8 x 4 hung from the rafters in the basement. Plus my Dad had a Lionel train set from the 40's I believe it was... He kept it all when I moved out and my parents divorced.. Now fast word and I'm going through his things and can not find the trains... Wish I knew what happened to them...
