That little fork is probably harder to load than most bigger machines, as the gauge of the axles probably isn't wide enough to hit the ramps.

You are right about that, they are too narrow for the ramps on the trailer. So I took the dock plate they were shipping with the forklift & side loaded it. It was small enough to maneuver it once it was on the deck & get it centered up. The wheels were just wide enough that they rode on the center beams.

Wouldn't be opposed to trying it sometime, just not the kind of equipment at my disposal at this time.

The only reason they needed an RGN was because they didn't have a loading dock at the pick up location. Seemed rather strange that they had a dock plate when they didn't have a dock, but I've seen stranger things.

Just glad to know I'm not the only "sucker for way too much work" to do a little job...I get it, and I'd be right there with you doing the same thing

This is my load for Monday. Have to go nearly all the way to Missoula so I can turn around because I cannot fit under the interstate. Right at 16 feet tall.

This is lowboy row.... There are 5 trailers here. 2 each three axle, 2 each 2 axle and one three axle stretch that my load is sitting on. We also have 2 each nine axle trailers and one 8 axle trailer. And that is just the lowboys.

Is there a particular reason they loaded them that way?

Yeah the one on the back is 32k and 3/4 of the right side is solid for some sort of fish ladder or something like that. If that one was loaded sideways like the front one it would be too heavy on one side. The other reason is that attempting to stand up a box like that one that does not have complete support across the top stands a greater chance of being broken. The front box, that is the only way you can load them so they do not get broken when they are picked. The walls are thick but any lateral stress can easily break them.

So if you see me going through the Pilot in Bonner that is why... LOL

I just figured it would be worth the expense of fabbing up struts to support the open end to avoid going up the road 16' high.
Looks like it would be almost legal dims laying on its side.

I'd rather be 16' wide than 16' high.

We have annual permits for width length and up to 14'6" or something like that but we also have what is known as self issue permits and they are only $10. There is nothing to hit unless I try to cross under the interstate. But I can go another 10 miles or so and cross on an overpass. Not that big of a deal. just looked it up, I can cross over at rock creek instead of bonner

    Oxbow and passingthru69 Thank this.
