Look at Schneider's rating. Worse then Swift but you do not see all of the bashing regarding them. You just see Swift because they are so large. And of that 56, how many were caused by 4 wheelers, or maybe just something happened to the truck and the driver went off a bridge. And think about this, 56 fatalities in one year with 22,000 trucks. I think that Schneider is 29 for less then 10,000 drivers. All that reporter did was state something without any more information and just made it a story.

And if so bad, why are YOU looking to come and drive for Swift

Dude how did YOU come up with I'm looking to go to work for SWIFT? I'd go back to driving a cab first. I've helped many SWIFT drivers, they aren't bad guys, just awful drivers.
As you say 56 / 22K. That's 1 in 393 going to kill someone. We won't even start to caver maimed and basic injuries, and property damage. It's unacceptable by anyone's standard.

But you still missed one major point. Out of those 56, how many caused by 4 wheeler, truck malfunction, weather. All that the reporter said and what everyone is focusing on, the number 56. It is like when years ago some report came out talking about ALL of the fatalities regarding semi's, but never mentioned the large percentage caused by 4 wheelers. And this accident, new driver and blown steer tire. Of course the reporter did not mention this. Also I do not care how much experience that you have, a blown steer tire is going to cause a issue. I have had 2, and luckily I was on a straight road with a break down lane. I pray every time on 2 lane or going around a corner or a bridge or on a road with no place to go, do not let me have one now. There was a photo on another site not long ago showing a Swift in a ditch and taking out a telephone pole. What it did not say, it was a blown tire and no place to go

Where is everyone seeing they ruled a blown steer tire as the cause?

I agree, focusing purely on the number doesn't explain much. I can just about guarantee at least one of those wrecks was from a 4 wheeler rear ending the Swift truck. Probably more. That can happen to anyone of us.
I'm very surprised by this thread and the attitudes expressed, usually when a media outlet reports on trucking accidents we get all defensive and start breaking it down realistically. Guess Swift just isn't popular but I think holding that same standard would be a nice start.

you really can't say who was the cause of the fatality accidents,,,, Id be concerned about the almost 4100 unsafe driving citations…….

True, but you can break that down also with every thing that DOT considers unsafe today. Cracked windshield, lane change with no signal. Anyone notice how much infractions went up after the new CSA crap started. Some local yocal did not like the way you made a turn in his small town. You pull up to a scale and the DOT is having a bad day and decides to take it out on you. It could almost be anything this day.
