And you are entitled to you opinion.
I just can't imagine getting half of a trip payment every other day and then reconciling it with the balance every week... You are making work for yourself. But that's fine with me...![]()

I can't imagine any job in America exempt from minimum wage standards but trucking is , one of the last piece rate pay industries in our great land , Where it's ok to borrow a mans' time and money and not compensate him . It's easy to reconcile debit and credit . Thanks

I have not had the Minimum Wage rules apply to me personally since I worked in college back in the 80's. And I am making more in this profession than I made in any job since college.
And how are we paid piece rate... I agree that how much we make is calculated by CPM but I get paid to do a job... From hooking a King Pin to Bumping a Dock... And for that I get paid... Just happens the further I drive I get a bit more change from that job.
If we were to be paid by the hour we would have everyone being micromanaged to death.
We are a decentralized workforce... Paid by Time is simply not a viable option from a management point of view... It's much too easily abused ... And frankly I doubt many drivers want to be micro managed every hour they clock.
But again, you are certainly entitled to your view. -

Regarding driver compensation. How about if U were paid Ur current cpm and in addition U were paid a hourly wage for everything not on the driving line of Ur logs. The hourly wage must be no less than min wage. This would now compensate U for all the time spent doing the things currently done for f

Now the companys would be motivated to get the shippers / receivers to get U in and out. -
We no longer have a food crisis . If you work for any freight hauler ( abf , ups, yellow , OD, etc) they are paid to drop , to hook , to pretrip , to post trip because a mileage contract is piece rate ( the piece being the distance driven ).
The Gonzalez holding has been followed by federal district court cases involving truck drivers. For example, in Con-Way Freight v. Quezada, the court held that the employer had to pay drivers for non-driving tasks, such as vehicle inspections and waiting time. The fact that the employer had included that time in its piece-rates was irrelevant: Under California law, non-driving time must be paid at a separate hourly rate that meets or exceeds the minimum wage.
If you're ok with that , cool , not trying to change your mind , I'm just frustrated by the acceptance of itKD5AXG Thanks this. -
But to each his own. Peace. -
