Basically in Illinois they found one of our drivers overweight 4000 pounds( he has a cat scale which shows him legal) and the trooper told me on the phone that driver needs to pay 1200 dollars on the spot. I asked what if the driver or us cannot afford it, he said they would hold the tractor and we can come get the trailer. They also said they have a recommendation for a company to come rearrange. First question is, wheres the due process there? I've never heard of a fine having to be paid upfront.
Second question is, has anyone had any experience with the Cat Scale company reimbursing a fine? It says that on top of the receipt.
Thank you and any help is greatly appreciated.

A few years ago I got nailed for overweight in SD to the tune of $700. The officer told me they require non SD residents to pay the fine in the spot. I wrote 'em a check.

Pay the ticket (bond) but make sure you have a court date. Then CAT will help you beat the ticket in court. If it can be beat.

So we should start carrying around $25,000. Cuz some of you guys have been posting some pretty hefty fines.

It's a quick money grab for them...
Where in IL was this? -
Hate to be the bearer of bad news ..... certainly the load was legal at the Cat Scale, BUT between the Cat Scale and the Scale House the load shifted for what ever reason ie hard braking, not blocked/braced properly. This is squarely the drivers fault if he/she had a chance to block/brace the load BEFORE a seal was put on the Dry/Reefer Trl.. -
I had a driver get a 2400.00 overweight ticket and they let him roll. I wasn't too happy. i had to pay it in 10 days I think.
