For the smaller stuff like, finish nails. Pull it out stick a drill bit about the same size in the hole to find the angle. Then drill out with a larger bit. Makes plugging so much easier

I just spit on it. If it throws bubbles, then I need to get to shop. But don't remove it.
If it doesn't bubble then I remove it and carry on.
Had one nail in my drive tire in five years. I'm always carful where I drive through. I never pull through in truckstops, check the dock areas before backing in. Removed plenty of seals laying on the ground.

I keep one of those at all times along with a block of wood and a can of either...
I would not feel good with a plugged steer tire but it would be good to get you home.
I like those big orange gooey plugs...they work good!

I once tore off my mudflap hanger and punctured a wide base drive tire with it. Boss wasn't too pleased.

Solid Trucking advice. Never, repeat, Never play games with a steer tire. Repair the tire and move it back to the trailer. I'd go one further and always replace steers in pairs.
