If I remember correctly, Paccar says that running their engine at less than 1300 rpm at full torque for more than 30 seconds is abuse. But they say that it is ok to run at 1200 also right? Maybe just not while climbing a grade. I don't lug my engine down that far on a grade but I think a lot of manufacturers suggest that it is ok.

PACCAR is always looking to cover their butts and unfortunately does not care about the needs of the independent operator any longer. If you buy a couple of hundred trucks from them then they treat you slightly better, otherwise they look to blame the driver and somehow forget to admit fault.

The MX-13 needs more development in our market, unfortunately the government is pushing the emissions standards so hard that it doesn't make financial sense for real improvements to be made, after all service and parts are an extremely profitable segment for PACCAR.

1200-1400 is the sweet spot of this engine and that's coming from Kenworth

Sweet spot for fuel mileage on level ground and slight rolling hills. Should be up around 1500 for heavy loads on steep hills. Too much heat and cylinder pressure pulling heavy up big hills under that.

1300rpm pulling 79800 pounds up west Virginia mountains is not enough power at all lol.
    Normally pulling I'm at 1500-1600.
However i was near the peak of the mountain when this happened so i was no longer pushing it.

Operating it for more than 30 seconds outside of its power band at full throttle is abuse. I think that power band is something like 1000-1500 though

Read it in the manual when I had my t680, but don't remember the numbers 100%.

These numbers had a change in 2015, depending on the build. The later models were changed, and the optimal cruise rpm dropped to around 1150 rpm instead of 1250. They had made changes to lower the torque curve, partly for the "advantage" setups.

Even the older setup though, that engine was not intended to be ran over 1500rpm at wide open throttle. Just adding that because you mentioned pulling hills at 1500-1600 rpm. On an engine failure, this is something they could check on the ECM and make things difficult for you. Just a heads up in case that was the situation because at under 100k, engineers could be involved on a catastrophic engine failure.

I have a hard time believing this, but if that is true, it's absurd.
