The Rio grande valley of Texas is where all my work hard work on the deck gets done ..loaded in eagle pass today and had to take down my side kit and put it away and sweltering hot and humid ...then came tying the load down ...I'm curious what the rest of you do to avoid heat related issues ...as for me I work till I don't feel safe then get in the truck and cool down for 10 mins or so and drink gaterade , then repeat the process ...what do you do ?

Lots of water. Two or three bottles come out of the truck with me. And slow down. I work at a steady pace i can keep going. When it is 90 or higher out is not the time to be setting speed records at tarping.

Fyi, for hydration purposes you should drink water at room temp. I keep a case on my passenger floor board under the ac vent for this. Now after I'm done i grab one out of the fridge at 36 degrees.

Less of a shock to the body. Big temperature swings can have adverse effects when orgins are stressed.

Absorbs faster, and cold water can cause a cramp... I work in Texas also, when I'm doing trailer repairs the company gives us 3hr cooling vests. You just toss them in the fridge, pull them out when your about to work. They don't prevent heat exhaustion, but they help prolong its onset. Heavy units stay cool for longer, but they are expensive.

    tsavory and bzinger Thank this.

I despise the heat but I just work through it as fast as possible to get the job done. I drink as much gatorade and water as I can. The colder the better for me.

KriegHund, bzinger and johndeere4020 Thank this.

Being born and raised in Minnesota do you prefer the cold to the heat?

    bzinger and MJ1657 Thank this.
