I will say one thing, he was spot on about the CLT OC. About the only time I stop there anymore is when I need to jump on the company commodore 64 for sustainment training. Sometimes I think it's easier to park at the pilot down the street. He sure is fun to bash though

I would like to be a test driver for one. If it does close to what is proclaimed, I would like it. I may be an older codger, but I like anything that will make me more comfortable, pull and be quieter, and cost less to operate. The price is high, but, if it could ever do what they claim, the fuel savings alone would pay for it, especially if fuel went over $4.00 a gallon again.

I don't like the newer trucks just because the emissions systems and electrical systems give so much trouble. But, the ride, drive, room, and comfort, is sooooo much better than what I started with, I'm all for a new truck that will actually stay running.

Any of you guys running today, you should have been driving when the length law was 55 feet, and most trucks were cab over with a 144 inch wheelbase, and spring suspension. I have jammed my tailbone into the seat, then had my head hit the roof thousands of times when hitting bumps in the road. Just riding down the road and hitting the expansion seams would knock most of the breath out of me. Except for the unreliable emissions, you don't know how much better the trucks are today.

But, the DOT and every cop on the roads are after you in ways we could not have imagined. Yes, they were after us at every turn for something since every state had different requirement's, and apportioned tags were not used then, but if caught, you paid your small fine, and went on your way.

New ways are coming. Some will work, some won't, but one thing I can guarantee you, the DOT and government are not going to let up one second of control over you, nor are the companies with tracking every second of what you are doing.

The real question is will existing truck mfg's put a stop to this in a way similar to what happened to Carbon Motors...time will tell.

 

Sounds good on paper, but so much more schhit to go wrong. When software replaces old technology It's been my experience:

Less mechanical = more computer/software = more glitches/freezing/failure

As technology is installed into vehicles, the real mechanics fade away and the new generation of mechanics are "parts replacers."

"Oh I don't know what's wrong with it, I replaced the egr, turbo sensors, and uh, replaced injectors on 5 and 6, and it's still not right" shrugs shoulders...might be the ecm?

As your looking at a bill for $1783 and your truck is still not right.

 

So he claims to be a friend of the owner operator.

Yet he is building a truck which runs $400k, is promoting its ability to "platoon" with driverless trucks, and since there is no shifting how it will open up the industry to a new class of "drivers".

Doesn't look like he's much of a friend to me.

 

Man their #s are so far off. Of course, what do you expect from a paid ad made to look like a news story.

 

Wow a lot more interest than I thought, it's an interesting concept with many questions to be answered, how will they service the trucks, will CNG be available enough to make long haul truly possible. Are the cost savings real, it will be interesting to see these tested under full loads.

I'm not worried about platooning, and they would be smart to find funding to support leasing these if they really want to compete, but electric motors are inherently more reliable so it will be interesting to see what comes from this...
