From one of the best jobs to, one of the worst .

Name a job thats here now and in the next 5, 10, 15 whatever amount of years, that you will be able too do just that.

 

I'm all for a strike but it will never happen , to many drivers willing to be slaves to the megas of the world because it's a " lifestyle " , homosexuality is a lifestyle to but they don't gladly work 70 hours a week for minimum wage ...only when the driver pool dwindles to dam near nothin will things improve .

 

You all need to look around and see what the real reasons are that we are in this situation, it isn't the mega companies or the ata or anything else but ourselves. We ignore the low rates, we ignore the sub-standard drivers and the entire revolving door mentality. We forget that this used to be a profession, as the article pointed out, but now it is a job, just a job. We make excuses for poor drivers all the time, the idiot who has to grab food while occupying one lane in the fuel isle, or the guy who is speeding down the road passing everyone because he could not tell time - we have an excuse for all of it. We don't dare confront a driver who just acted like an idiot but the government does through regulations which we get stuck with

For some reason we are the most politically inept group in the country. when we should be the most unified group, we should be demanding better from the government. We failed ourselves by not looking at what we can do politically but complain all the time that it is the big bad companies that keep us voting those people in who ignore us but do what these companies want.

 

Very well stated ! I'm still one of the pridefull people concerned about the image of the industry , my equipment , how I look and conduct myself ...we are a dying breed .

 

I'm really glad this thread was started. Of course we're going to have people blaming the government. But surely we all realize that anything caused by government, is actually the fault of the voters. This all started when the investing class bribed our government into allowing American factories to be built in third world countries, using slave labor, then send their products back into the domestic market with no tariff, and the voters did nothing. This all started when the SCOTUS, in the late 70s ruled money was speech and that private citizens could fund election campaigns, and the voters did nothing. This all started when the state and local governments attacked unions and made it harder to organize, and the voters did nothing. This all started when the government destroyed the Fairness Doctrine, and allowed commercial radio to broadcast everyday, voices that told us the government and unions were the enemy and private business was the cure all to end all, and the voters did nothing. So why do most of the jobs of today suck compared to those of yesterday? Because too many people have gone to the polls the last thirty five years and voted for people that ultimately shaped policy for the minority in the business class, and not for the We the People. Working class people, lower and middle management are included (although too stupid to see it), need to start sticking together, and stop allowing those against our best interest to divide us. The workforce is the union. If the administration of those unions become corrupt or are not working for the workforce, you deal with that. When management becomes corrupt and not giving consideration to the employees, being united is the only recourse you have. If not, what do you do? Quit? Give up everything you've earned up to that point? Possibly to be hired in another place that's even worse? Being united brings democracy into the work place. Voice your opinions to elected officials, and for the nation's sake, vote in your best financial interest not in anger or fear.

 

It isn't just trucking. In 1980, the average doctor made $241,000 (in 2016 dollars) vs $203,000 today. Worse, they graduated college with an average debt of $167,000 today vs $123,000 in 1980 (again 2016 dollars)
