I'm a guy who leases successfully for me. I'm on my third lease now in 11 years. I make a decent living for me. Maybe not for a super trucker. I paid taxes on $81k last year. I always lease new trucks and when the warranty is up I trade for another new one. I haul reefers for a mega. I was with one mega who got bought by an even bigger mega and that's been a positive experience. I make on average $1.18 per mile.
Now who can't lease successfully
The pattern I see with lease failures is taking too much time off. I'll talk with guys who say stuff like well I had to take 3 weeks off and then I had to be home twice a week for some reason or another. Look none of us have masters degrees. If we did we sure as hell wouldn't be trucking. If you want to truck that means full time work. Full time for a lease purchaser is a couple days off every 4-6 weeks. If you needed 6 weeks off per year you should have gotten that masters degree and even then you'd have to work a long time to get that kind of vacation time. This is blue collar work and some people aren't cut out for it. While I'm at it I'll tell you exactly who those people are that can't hack it are because you've seen em at the truck stop; and you can avoid being one by making obvious lifestyle choices. They have garbage climbing over the window sills in their trucks. They weigh 400# and have a 300# beast chick riding with them that eats bagged food and tosses her wrappers on the floor boards. They waddle together in and out of the T/A. Those people fail and eventually end up on disability for some weight and hygiene related malady. You'll see them at Walmart on the first of the month after they became to ill to truck from living in gargbage. Sadly if they kept up their hygiene they'd be perfect lease operators because they're already homeless but I digress. Then there's the dude who misses his wife and kids. He's not cut out for lease trucking either. Sad but true.
TL;DR if you need more than a couple days home per month don't lease. If you weigh 400# your health will fail; don't lease.

I would definitely fail at a lease. Even though I don't have a masters degree, I'm too smart to let a truck payment rule my life. No offense OP, but you're a dream come true for a mega carrier, the guy that's not only willing to be a slave to a truck payment but has fooled himself into believing the "trucking lifestyle" story that they sell so hard. Enjoy your new truck, but I'll be going home to my pretty young wife tonight.

Interesting. Your diatribe only taught me 2 things: You're chained to a Swift lease, but posting this made you feel better and you don't have many friends. I hope the truckers I know with Masters degrees chime in. They're smarter than me.

Just think of what you could do if you didn't have that truck payment!
Sounds like you're just running your ### into the ground, no thanks.pattyj, Eeyore05, Canned Spam and 2 others Thank this. -
If I wanted there's a dedicated account I can get on, 1 night at home during the week, a 34 on the weekend, 4 weeks off for vacation and I would put about $12K more a year in my pocket.
It's not about muscling it through, though that is a strategy. It's about exploiting the opportunities and maximizing your assets.Texnmidwest Thanks this. -
The biggest thing I got out of that post is that fat people make you feel better about yourself. Or they make you feel superior somehow. Maybe it's because you are only at 350# and not 400#? You point out fat people and a family man and somehow think that they cannot be successful. Good luck with your future with that very narrow view of the world.

Why are you picking on overweight people?
You just felt like ranting this morning didn't you.
