Can't do the pictures but I believe 9 story Fords had bags on all four corners and the Mack Ultra Liners definitely did. Never had to drive one much but hated them. When a big pothole was hit I felt like a bug trying not to get thrown off the top of a Mexican kids shaker toy. Drive and maintain lane at the same time? Learned to keep the steering wheel pointed where I wanted to go and disregard the the cab flopping around. Any body ever learn to like those? I would just go with the rear bags.

I personally like the Freightliner single axle idea, common (inexpensive), dependable, lots of travel. Super singles look cool but light weight single axle hydroplane and other possible issues. I would keep duels.

I saw a fab shop truck with a basic (but nice) hauler type bed. They had a flat bed that would set on top of it and secured by 4 or 6 HD flip latches. It had a big welder, air compressor, I thank boxes and a small boom. They used it for work, flipped some latches, forklift, goose neck trailer , trade show here we come.

    Hmmm, who you talkin' about?

Just read the entire thread. Sweet Ride!
    SUBSCRIBED!

I know that feeling. I keep finding "fixes" that amaze me, made on the farm by some migrant worker. I can't wrap my head around electrical stuff so I've settled on replacing all the wiring one wire at a time.

    Great thread, very motivational!
    THANKS...

That's my plan as well. I'd hate to sink a lot of money into this truck and then be plagued with electrical problems daily.

There's things done to this truck that make me shake my head. Stuff like rebar gob welded around the rear cab mount brackets and a giant puddle of aluminum hanging off the carrier bearing crossmember that I can only assume was someone's crack repair. Worst one of all was the Freightliner floor mats.

    BIGZILLA Thanks this.

    :eek::eek::eek:NO!!!!!! NOT FREIGHTLINER!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

I have found 2 rebar welding repairs on mine. LOL

I know all too well how plans tend to bend and shape themselves as you work on the truck, so, what is your "final" plan as of now? a restoration? a functional build? Or are you just seeing where it takes you?

And mostly, THANK YOU for the motivation. I got up off my butt and started cutting on mine today after reading this thread. I'm headed back over to cut some more now. I will get my build thread started tonight.

Originally I wanted to do an original restoration with a couple modern updates like air ride. Now its going to be a single drive axle. I'm commited to that now since the frame rails I've ordered are only going to allow for 1 drive axle. Only reason I'm doing this is because it seems like everyone has an old muscle car and this is unique. Plus I despise working on automotive/light vehicles with a passion.

I bought an 1985 Freightliner cabover. The throttle linkage had been welded together. There were no nuts on the shock absorbers, just a big flat washer welded to the bracket

Love it! I'm headed down the same path. Lighten it up, maybe single drive axle. Bit stay somewhat true to it's history. Kind of feel the same way, I've done the musclecar thing, but now every Tom Dick and Harry has a late 60s or early 70s resto-mod. I want something BIGGER, BADDER AND MUCH LESS COMMON. I've never been a pack animal, an animal for sure, but without the pack.

Keep up the good work and keep posting.
PS I've got a spicer 8341D I don't need if you know anyone needing one.:D
