Hey Walmart Drivers, I need some advice.
I just left XPO Logistics (formerly Con-way Truckload) after 4 years and 500,000+ miles of accident free driving, to come back to MS, tie up some loose ends around my mother's passing (property, etc.), pack up and move to Bastrop, Texas when our house is completed (probably in August).
Since I'll be living in Bastrop, TX, my goal is to get on with Walmart and drive OTR out of the New Braunfels, TX DC. (I know, I'm sure many others have that same goal!)
To this end, I have a couple of questions.
Does it make sense to apply for a Yard Driver or Delivery Driver position if my goal is to drive OTR?
I know that the Yard and Delivery Driver positions are not in the Transportation division, so would getting one of those positions help, hurt, or have no impact on me in getting an OTR position in the future?
Please message me with the answers to the following questions (and/or any other advice you have):
Can I apply in person at the New Braunfels, TX DC, or is everything done online?
The online system only allows one to apply for current, specific openings at a particular DC and there is no provision to submit an application for any "future openings".
So, I'm curious as to whether or not I can go to the DC in person to apply for a future OTR position?
In general, what is the best way to get an OTR position at a specific DC?
Assuming I meet the qualifications, is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting an OTR Driver position with Walmart?
I know that an OTR Driver job with Walmart is a great job and there are a lot of people who would like to drive there, so anything that would help me get my foot in the door will be GREATLY appreciated!
So, thanks in advance for taking the time to provide any of your valuable advice and/or insights into successfully getting into and through the hiring process and into the seat of a Walmart truck! -
slim6596 and The Gryphon Thank this.

How long was the hiring process for you? Since you're new and have just gone through the process, what are the steps and timeline for each step, etc.
Thanks a lot for your help! -
