Back in olden times I spent the night outside a warehouse in Elizabeth NJ. Next morning walked to a diner for breakfast. While waiting at the counter I was looking around and noticed a bullet hole in the window directly behind me. Decided to not spend the night on that street again. Lol

I wouldn't call it gravy really. I get what you are saying but if your truck was paid for would you run under company dispatch for 1.20 a mile. The absolute last thing I want is 3000 miles a week at that rate.

I agree with you...1.20 isnt going to cut it...but we have to understand paying off a truck is huge....

Yeah, the truck is paid for. But what about the NEXT truck? Or the rebuild?

Also missing from FW otherwise solid back of the envelope math is health insurance. It was the deal breaker for me when I last seriously ran the numbers on getting my own truck.

It wasn't missing, I had to there as another reason why being a company driver is better than working at a cheap mileage rate carrier while paying for a truck.

Nothing wrong with getting your own truck, just say no to cheap freight ;)

I think I said gravey and maintenance...if you put 400.00 a week on a paid off truck towards maintenance you should be able to afford a rebuild etc...yes health insurance is an issue but look for associations to belong to and you will find good rates...I am not saying this is easy
...you have to be a thinker etc
