Its really a personal thing. I welcome it for the simple fact that I don't have to find a place to scan or wait in any lines. Its a big time saver for me.

As far as data goes, for the month I've used 4.43mb on the app. 27 other apps have used more, including Blue Beacon searches at 6.7mb's.

Agreed. Laws governing tech is way behind. When I was a kid I heard stories about a day they would implant chips in our bodies as a means to tag us and control us. I laughed at that then. It sounded absurd. Now we have the cell phone. Who needs a chip now? Our cell phones are like a dog leash, and they don't even have to be forced on us. We PAY for our own dog leash. We keep records of who and how often we talk to the people in our lives. We leave GPS tracks. We carry a camera and microphone with us that can be controlled remotely without our being aware of it. Our emails can be read, and our files can be searched without our being aware of it. Some people don't care about their constitutional rights, or even about basic privacy. Many do, and I'm one of them.

Lets say I'm a bad cop that wants to screw with you. Just think of what your contact list tells me about you. Oh, you know Judge Timmons do you? Well, since you have important connections I better do an extra good job in setting you up. A poor loser with a bunch of drug addicts for friends? Heck, a single lie should do it.

Lets say I'm your employer. You have my app on your phone. My app needs to access your files and camera so I can view business related documents. My app needs to see your contacts and call logs to verify you are communicating with vendors or other customers. What's to keep me from using these permissions for non business reasons? My word as an honest businessman? Gee, I wonder why Bob here has been calling my wife at 2am every Sunday. Oops... Bob got fired. Poor Bob... shouldn't have put my app on his phone. There's just way too many ways to abuse the technology. The government loves it, and employers want to get in on this action.

I use facebook on my computer to keep in touch with a few friends. I will not use the facebook app because 90% of the people on my contact list do not use facebook, and there's no reason for Mark Zuckerberg to know who they are.

What would make you think that?
The fact that I don't have a camera in my bedroom open to the public?
The fact that I lock my doors at night?
The fact that I don't write my PIN on my atm card?

    Obsess much?

I agree with you 100%. Most people have no clue that they can be (and most likely are) listened to and watched through their phones and tablets. I don't keep any confidential info on my phone or tablet and I always keep a piece of tape over the front and rear camera lenses when I'm not using them.

Believe it or not, I know a guy in his 50's, working dead end low paying job and covering his laptops camera with duct tape, so nobody can watch him

My first trainer refused to let me in his truck if I had the battery in my phone. He didn't want the NSA spying on him through my camera. I can't make this stuff up. He also said I was a mindless sheep for owning a flatscreen TV, because "that's how they watch ya bang your old lady on the couch"......
    He had issues.

People can take their concerns to extreme's on both sides. Some people think FEMA has underground tunnels to every Walmart store and DC in the West. I find that just as funny as those who think cell phones can't be used as a spying device. There are commercially available apps for this very purpose. http://abcnews.go.com/US/apps-secretly-spy-cellphone/story?id=34950812

I've also seen, and used, apps that you can't get commercially. I don't worry about my cell phone, but some do have reason to worry about theirs.

Clean your truck out, go somewhere else. They have given just cause for termination!
