It's all about risk assessment. While you may be an exception, there is a reason guys suspend their authority then later reactivate it and it's almost always poor business decisions that puts them in that situation. It basically boils down to the same reason those with bad credit pay more for insurance than those with good. It's all about risk assesment of the group a person falls in.

When I was at Crete, I was required to use the Enforcer
Lock. I met one our drivers at a drop yard. He had spent the night at a motel.
Someone hooked a chain to the rods that turn the latches and yanked the doors open , so now the rods were bent.
What did the crook find ? A load of peanut butter jar lids. One box was cut open.
The receiver rejected the load . The driver took it home for time off and ended staying a week waiting for someone to make a decision on what to do with load.
They finally told him to drop it about 150 miles away at our West Memphis drop yard.
That criminal caused alot of trouble and expense.

I've been soaking up as much info from this thread and Blairs. My problem is the spread sheet info on this one comes up as a bunch of garbled computer speak that I am not able to dis-cipher. Where can I get a cleaner view of these sheets so I can judge (and implement my own) numbers? Much thanks in advance

Best to make your own. And it doesn't have to be a fancy spread sheet, pen and paper works just fine. Use whichever you are more comfortable with.

Spyder you're right that I should use my own numbers. I do that a lot. I would like to be able to see these spreadsheets to be able to use as a reference is all. Everybody has their own numbers they need to use, no two trucks or operators are alike. Thanks for that suggestion, much respect to you.

I'm throwing in the towel and will be selling my truck (and trailer) after I make this last delivery Wednesday.

    2001 International 9400i Skyrise (condo)
    12.7 Detroit pre egr
    2.64 rears (6x4)
    10 speed direct
    APU

    Modifications:
    Wide singles
    Donaldson muffler
    K&N air filter
    OPS ecopur bypass filtration
    vibratech crankshaft damper
    turbo3000d
    air tabs
    centramatics (steer axle)

8.3mpg average over the two years I've owned it. It'll flirt with 9mpg driven 55mph on the pedal, but with diesel so cheap I've been running 62 on cruise and getting low 8's the last year. It has the latest Detroit low NOx programming

I have maintenance records going back to 2006 (previous owner and mine).

    Recent work:

    20,000 miles ago:
Bullgear, water pump, overhead, clutch, air compressor, governor, air dryer, radiator, oil cooler,

    80,000 miles ago:
Inframe (genuine Detroit reliabilt parts), 6 injectors/cups, injector harness, engine harness, cab bushings, suspension bushings, cab shocks, axle shocks, king pins, alignment, ac compressor, etc

Exterior and interior are a bit rough for my liking, I'd rate 6-7 out of 10 for both. Mechanically it is in great shape -- I'd rate 9+ out of 10.

    $20,000

I'll add more pictures after I deliver this load Wednesday in Reno, but here's one from last Fall: 20150916_120636.jpg

Trailer is a 2015 Hyundai HyCube with plate walls, air ride, air slide, and side skirts. $21,000 for it.

Honestly I was wondering how long it would be, especially after getting to know you a bit. As-in this is a hard business to run in good times, and I know you have a few other less work intensive options to turn to.

I think you have your equipment priced right. Best of luck for a quick trouble free sale and transition to something else.

Sorry to hear about this, I've enjoyed your thread and progress. What were the main issues that made you throw in the towel?

Grijon and rollin coal Thank this.
